STUNT Announced as the Next GLVC Sport in 2025-26
January 10, 2025
The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced Friday it will start sponsoring STUNT as its 26th sport, beginning in the 2025-26 academic year. The inaugural season of GLVC STUNT will feature six institutions, including full-time league members Drury University, Lewis University, Maryville University, Quincy University, and Southwest Baptist University, as well as associate member East Stroudsburg University. East Stroudsburg was approved for associate membership status in September 2024.


Albright to Add Stunt as Varsity Sport – NCAA.org

Albright College and the Albright athletic department have announced that Stunt is the newest varsity sport to be offered at Albright. The Lions will begin competing in Stunt in the 2025-26 year and Stunt is a spring sport. With the addition of Stunt, it brings Albright’s intercollegiate offerings to 23. A search for the programs first head coach begins immediately.


Ferris State adding STUNT, a sport based on competitive cheerleading skills, as a new varsity team

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. —
Ferris State University is adding STUNT, a competition that incorporates skills derived from cheerleading, as a new varsity sport starting with the fall 2025 season.

STUNT is one of the fastest growing female sports in the country. Ferris State joins Davenport University and Purdue Northwest as Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schools with a varsity team.


Ashland Kroc Center introduces Club STUNT for young girls

The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Ashland is flipping over the newest addition to its program line-up – Club STUNT for girls ages 8-14 years.

As one of the fastest-growing female sports in the U.S., the Ashland Kroc Center team is partnering with Ashland University alumni and former athletes Shila Shreve and Joy Downing to bring the sport to local girls.


Purdue Northwest adds varsity STUNT team

HAMMOND, Ind. (WLFI) — A new sport is being added to the athletic program at Purdue University Northwest.

Starting in the 2024- 2025 season, Purdue Northwest will be the first institution in the state of Indiana to add a varsity STUNT team.


Missouri State Will Add Two Women’s Varsity Sports

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Missouri State University will officially add two women’s sports to its varsity athletic offerings beginning in 2024-25, as announced today by Director of Athletics Kyle Moats.

The first new sport — STUNT — is one of the fastest-growing female sports in the country and is governed by USA Cheer. The other new sport — Acrobatics and Tumbling — is the evolution of different forms of gymnastics and involves tumbling, tosses, acrobatic lifts and pyramids.


Local 7-year-old gets heartwarming opportunity, signs with Ursuline STUNT team

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio — On Wednesday evening, a local 7-year-old girl who loves gymnastics received a heartwarming gesture—becoming a part of the Ursuline College STUNT Team with an adorable signing day. The Ursuline Arrows STUNT Team is a growing group. In its first year as an NCAA program, the high-intensity sport combines elements of cheerleading and gymnastics with its athletes executing tosses, pyramids, jumps and tumbles. It takes a high level of skill and athleticism, which the Arrows can see blossoming within the team as they continue to work together.


SNU’s STUNT Team Set for Spring 2024 Season – The Echo

STUNT will officially start their first season for SNU in Spring 2024 and most of SNU’s cheerleaders will join the team. However, many students are not aware of the sport or that SNU even has the team, so I interviewed the STUNT’s coach, Coach Hamilton, to bring light to the sport. I asked Coach Hamilton her opinion on what STUNT is. Hamilton responded, “STUNT is a new female sport that incorporates skills derived from cheerleading. STUNT is an exciting head-to-head game between two teams who execute skills-based routines in various categories, such as partner stunts, jumps and tumbling, pyramids and tosses, and team routines.”


NKU to establish six new varsity athletics programs to aid in enrollment efforts

At the NKU Board of Regents meeting Wednesday, the board voted to approve the establishment of the following new varsity athletic programs: women’s stunt, men and women’s swimming, men and women’s triathlon, and men’s volleyball in hopes of increasing enrollment by 150 new students by the 2026/27 academic year.

Stunt, one of the fastest-growing female sports in the country, continues to expand and provide empowering opportunities for women to learn, lead and compete. The expansion of stunt continued this week, as the Lone Star Conference officially announced the addition of stunt as a league sport. “We are so excited to be one of the first conferences to make this move for a championship,” TWU stunt head coach Jasmine Owens said. “We love to be pioneers in this sport and look forward to advancements as we continue through emerging sport status.”


QUINCY UNIVERSITY ADDS STUNT AS WOMEN’S VARSITY SPORT

Green Level’s Bella Cathell becomes first Wake County athlete to sign stunt scholarship

Bella Cathell has made history in Wake County athletics. The Green Level High School senior is the first Wake County athlete to sign a scholarship for stunt. Cathell was recognized at the Wake County stunt championships on Wednesday night by district athletic director Deran Coe. Cathell will compete in stunt on a scholarship at St. Mary’s University.


Local teams start up first youth recreational STUNT league in Northern California | Gold Country Media

Four Placer County teams from the Sierra Athletic Conference, Woodcreek, Del Oro, Whitney and Lincoln, have come together to start a recreational STUNT league, the first in Northern California. The Sierra Athletic Conference is the same league that involves youth football teams in the fall that junior cheerleaders support. “It has been so exciting to see our junior STUNT season actually come to fruition,” said Kim Watson, the Woodcreek Cheer vice-president. “Our programs help grow young athletes to play at the high school level when they reach that age.”


UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL ARKANSAS ADDING STUNT AS VARSITY SPORT IN 2023

CONWAY, AR. – The University of Central Arkansas will officially add the sport of STUNT to its offerings of varsity athletic programs beginning in the fall of 2023, according to UCA’s director of athletics Dr. Brad Teague.

As of the start of the 2022 fall semester, BVU has become the first university in the state of Iowa to add this emerging sport of STUNT to its cheer and dance program. Athletic Director Scott Brown said, “Any time we can provide an additional experience to our students and our student athletes, we are going to take that opportunity.” Associate Director of Athletics and Cheer Administrative Supervisor Amy Maier added, “It gives us another opportunity to recruit athletes from many different backgrounds whether that’s cheer, STUNT, or gymnastics and provides an opportunity that they might not otherwise have.”

Toe touches, back tucks and high-air basket tosses signaled the very first practice this summer by recruits to St. Mary’s University’s newest varsity sport — STUNT. STUNT is a four-quarter game version of competitive cheerleading. The first three quarters focus on a specific element of competitive cheerleading, said new STUNT Head Coach Jordan Wait-Parker. Teams reserve the last quarter for a routine showcasing all skills — partner stunts, jumps and tumbling, pyramids and tosses. For Wait-Parker, coaching is more than a passion — it’s a way to carry on deeply rooted family traditions. She began coaching at her family’s cheerleading gym in Bloomington, Illinois, at just 15 years old.

“There is notoriety for the stunt team,” explained Durrey. “The students can attend and watch at school. There is more recognition for stunt than there is cheerleading.”


St. Mary’s University cheers on launch of STUNT team

STUNT advances to the final stage for NCAA Emerging Sports for Women Status

USA Cheer shares today that the NCAA Division II and III Councils will sponsor legislation to add STUNT as an emerging sport for women in their respective divisions. The legislation will be up for a member vote at the January 2022 NCAA convention. The Division I Council is expected to consider similar legislation at their meeting in October 2021.

OBU Bison Clinch Conference After Three-Win Day

“We are excited to add STUNT as our 12th varsity sport. This will give female student-athletes an opportunity to continue their athletic and academic careers at the collegiate level. Hanover College to Add STUNT 2020/2021
May 23, 2019 – College STUNT: Hanover College Panthers Athletics
Hanover becomes just the second school in the state of Indiana and the first NCAA Division III institution in the state to add STUNT as a varsity sport. Purdue University is the only other school in the Hoosier state currently offering the program. The Panthers will also join regional Division III institutions such as Alma (Mich.), Hiram (Ohio) and Olivet (Mich.) that compete in STUNT’s Division II/III Conference. A total of 40 schools were listed on STUNT’s website as official varsity programs for 2019.

Competitive sports cheer (STUNT) will have as many as 30 girls on the roster. Sallina Boynton (Jazzlyn’s mother and former coach) filled in last year as coach at Las Lomas High School. She will be coaching next year at Acalanes along with her daughter and Caviness and appreciates the difficulty of competitive cheer: “You compete at jumping, tumbling, partner stunts and pyramids There are six levels and three different routines with each level and you have a short window to learn the routines. It’s a lot of work and a lot of fun. I’m very happy that it’s a sport.”


Anchorage School District is launching STUNT
STUNT cheer is a USA Cheer-sanctioned head-to-head sport with teams competing to win the grand champion title. Stunt cheer removes the crowd-leading element and focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps, and tumbling.
